Victoria Seniors Christmas Program
Posted by Herald Hazel Braithwaite on
The Victoria Commandery of the Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller commits to providing almost $20,000 by November 27, 2020 to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Vancouver Island (https://www.ssvpvancouverisland.ca/) to enable the co-dependent and cooperative delivery of the Victoria Seniors Christmas Program in 2020.
This program will assist seniors, 60 and older, who struggle financially and rely on food banks to survive, providing them with a food gift card over the holiday. This extra little bit helps lift them up and allows them to have holiday dinner, or perhaps buy special treats that they only get once a year, or to be able to pick up food items that they wouldn’t otherwise have access too.
St. Vincent de Paul will administer the program, accepting applications and maintaining a tracking process with the Christmas Giving Network data base to avoid overlapping recipients. This is a great opportunity to help seniors in need while partnering with a well established organization whose holds similar values (serving the sick and those in poverty).
All donations are eligible for tax receipts and can easily be done by e-transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org. Cheques are also accepted to the attention of Angus Izard: Cameron, Snell, Izard, #300-737 Yates St, (St Andrews Square) Victoria V8W 1L6. Please include a narrative “Seniors GC Program” in the e-transfer or on the cheque to identify the donation.
Thank you for helping make the season a little brighter for some of our most vulnerable community members!
