Commander of the Victoria Commandery
The humanitarian Mandate of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem-Knights Hospitaller is
to "help the sick and the poor".. To that end, the Victoria Members have established two projects, as follows:
Firstly, during 2005, we developed an on-line Calendar of Fund-raising Events.
The specific purpose of this Calendar is to assist community-based registered charitable organizations in scheduling their
fund-raising activities in order to minimize the risk of events occurring on the same date(s).
All community-based registered charitable organizations are invited to submit their
fund-raising events for inclusion in the Calendar.
Secondly, in late 2007, we launched our Living Spaces Project which provides support for
mentally ill homeless people as they enter transitional supportive housing administered by
the Vancouver Island Health Authority. The funds raised by the Members of the Order and
the public are held in trust by the Victoria Hospitals Foundation and are used to purchase
basic amenities such as beds, linens and cooking utensils — necessities that assist these people
in their transition from the street to a more stabilized, independent lifestyle. All participants
in the Living Spaces Project will have the opportunity to keep these items when they graduate
from the transitional housing program, thereby easing their transition to their restored lives.
If you wish to help by making a donation to the Living Spaces Project, please go to the
Victoria Hospitals Foundation web-site (www.victoriahf.ca) or
click on the Victoria Hospital Foundation link on our Links web-page...your support will be greatly appreciated.
The Members of the Order hope that you find this web-site useful and informative and
should you have any comments or suggestion, please contact us at
